An Otter Tail Company

Combustion turbines

Providing backup power

Combustion turbines produce less than one percent of Otter Tail Power Company's electricity. Often called peaking plants, these compact power plants generate power only during plant maintenance and peak usage periods when our primary power plants cannot meet our customer's demand for electricity.

Because they operate with more expensive fuels such as natural gas and fuel oil, combustion turbines are used only in times of need and are shut off when the demand for electricity declines.
