Wind power

We currently own about 138 MW of wind generation. We also purchase more than 45 MW of emission-free, renewable wind generation. In 2010 we expect the wind generation on our system to be equivalent to 18 percent of our retail sales. Our company's owned wind resources and power purchase agreements include:

Luverne Wind Farm

In May 2009 Otter Tail Power Company announced the beginning of construction on our 49.5 MW portion of the 169.5 MW Luverne Wind Farm in east central North Dakota.

Our purchase of the construction-ready site from M-Power LLC, was completed February 6, 2009. NextEra Energy is the construction manager of the wind farm.

Otter Tail Power Company's portion of the site was commercially operational by early September 2009.

Ashtabula Wind Energy Center

Ashtabula Wind Energy Center

Otter Tail Power Company owns 48 megawatts of the Ashtabula Wind Center. NextEra Energy owns the remainder of the 199.5-MW site in Barnes County, North Dakota.

The site became operational in November 2008.

Langdon Wind Energy Center

Langdon Wind Energy Center

Otter Tail Power Company owns 40.5-megawatts of wind-generated electricity from the Langdon Wind Energy Center. Our company also purchases power from NextEra Energy, who owns the remainder of the 159-megawatt site.

The entire wind facility was fully operational January 12, 2008.

North Dakota Wind II

NextEra Energy owns and operates North Dakota Wind II, which began operating in 2003. Our company purchases 21 MW of electricity from the site.
