Minnesota rate case process
Tentative schedule
Public Utilities Commission approval required
Otter Tail Power Company is a regulated utility, which means the Minnesota and South Dakota Public Utilities Commissions and the North Dakota Public Service Commission approve the amount we charge customers for producing and delivering their electricity.
Request submitted in 2007
On October 1, 2007, we submitted a request to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission for an increase in electric base rates in Minnesota only. For more detail, see our Minnesota rate case overview (pdf).
Interim rates will take effect
On November 16, 2007, the Commission voted to approve our request to increase rates by about 5.4 percent on an interim, or temporary, basis for all Minnesota customers' electric consumption on and after November 30, 2007. Interim rates remain in effect until the commission decides the case, which is expected to occur by August 1, 2008. If final rates are lower than interim rates, we will refund customers the difference with interest. If final rates are higher than interim rates the higher rates will become effective only as of the date in the commission's order.
