Compressed air audits

Help for Minnesota customers to find efficiency gains

With this CIP program Otter Tail Power Company will pay 80% of the cost for compressed air audits, up to $10,000. Audits must meet minimum standards to qualify for rebate incentives. Based on the audit findings, further assistance might be available through the grant project to make efficiency upgrades in your compressed air system to optimize equipment operations.

Why complete compressed air audits?

In applications from cryogenics to refrigeration, many manufacturers refer to compressed air as their plant's fourth utility. Yet research shows that in even the best compressed-air systems, only 20 percent to 25 percent of the electricity going into the system ends up as useful compressed air. Many facilities lose 20 percent to 40 percent of compressed air to leaks . Much of that loss occurs at end-uses where flexible fittings connect air-powered equipment to the air distribution system, at worn pipe fittings, and in dated and unprotected piping.

If you use compressed air to operate power tools, packaging, conveyors, or control systems, a compressed-air audit can help you identify cost-effective solutions to problems in your compressed-air system.
