Hydroelectric power has been part of our energy mix since 1907. Six small hydroelectric plants in Minnesota generate approximately 1 percent of our electricity. The Bemidji hydro plant is on the Mississippi River while the other five are on the Otter Tail River near Fergus Falls, Minnesota. We purchase additional hydro generation from other suppliers.
The license for our five hydroelectric plants on the Otter Tail River will expire in 2021. Learn about the five-year relicensing process.
