Luverne Wind Farm

Location

We own the northern field in Steele County. The entire site is in Griggs and Steele Counties in east central North Dakota.

Size

The total site is capable of producing 169.5 megawatts (MW). We own 49.5 MW.

Turbines

33 General Electric 1.5-MW XLE turbines compose our portion of the wind farm.

Delivery point

Pillsbury 230-kv Substation

Transmission

Minnkota Power Cooperative owns the Pillsbury Fargo Generation Outlet (PFGO), which is a 62-mile 230-kilovolt (kv) line that transmits Luverne Wind Farm-generated electricity from the Pillsbury 230-kv Substation to the Maple River 230-kv Substation.

We were the construction agent for the PFGO.

Terms

We purchased a 49.5-MW portion of the wind farm from M-Power, LLC.
 

Construction and start-up

Construction began in late May 2009.
Commercial operation of our portion of the site began in September 2009.
