Project Engineer

Operations Supervisor

Combustion Turbine Technician

Location

Astoria Station, South Dakota

Responsibilities

We have an immediate opening for a Combustion Turbine Technician at Astoria Station, South Dakota.

Must have a thorough understanding of electronics, PLC's, instrumentation and electricity; knowledge of combustion turbines and hydro operations; understand basic theories involved in the operation of a combustion turbine and understand mechanical equipment of a plant; be fluent in the use of computers; startup and shutdown a combustion turbine, hydro turbine and its associated equipment; act promptly without supervision in case of emergencies; perform all required maintenance duties and be able to work in temperature conditions above 100 degrees and below 0 degrees. Qualifications

Reliability Engineer

Location

Responsibilities

Our employees’ impact can take many forms. In this role, the Reliability & Data Engineer will provide engineering support and analysis to meet reliability goals to support the company’s mission.

Some of the details of the day-to-day include:

  • Provide engineering support and analysis to meet targeted reliability objectives and goals.

  • Drive improvements to system performance via recommendations and trending information.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to maintain accurate and consistent information for analysis and improvement.

  • Lead after event reviews of major interruption events and problematic circuits and provide recommendations for improvements.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain all existing and new power quality used in tracking and analysis and provide input into power quality investigations.

  • Act as a liaison between OTP business personnel and power quality industry experts.

  • Travel to job sites within SD, ND and MN required – typically this will be 4 site visits per month with about 10% of the travel requiring overnight stays.

 

Qualifications

Energy Recovery Analyst

Journeyman or Apprentice Electrical Line Worker

Responsibilities

The strength of our grid lies in the strength of our teams and our Line Workers are everyday heroes who ensure that our customers can depend on Otter Tail Power for their modern lifestyles. OTP is seeking a full-time Journeymen or Apprentice Electrical Line Worker to be temporarily located in Fergus Falls, MN.

Line Workers’ days vary, and some duties will include maintaining or repairing overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems and substations. They’ll also frame and erect poles and attach necessary fixtures and equipment. They’ll string, sag, and splice conductors (wires) and connect transformers and other equipment, trim trees, replace such equipment as broken insulators, split crossarms, cutouts, ties, faulty clamps or braces, and perform similar replacement or repair work as necessary to clear up storm damage.

Qualifications

We’re seeking candidates who have a diploma from an accredited line worker program and a valid, unrestricted interstate commercial driver's license. Candidates must have knowledge of electric line construction, maintenance, and repair, be able to work outdoors in any weather, be able to climb, have complete knowledge of safety rules and can get along well with others. The selected candidates will be expected to learn to use electrical instruments, to operate hydraulic equipment and to work out of an aerial basket. We also have a comprehensive apprenticeship program designed to develop great journeymen line workers. Any candidate selected will be expected to reside within 17 miles from the headquarters in Fergus Falls, MN.

Lead Lineman

Responsibilities

We have an immediate opening for a Lead Lineman in Jamestown, ND.

Operator Trainee

Location

Beulah, ND

Responsibilities

We have an opening for two full time Operator Trainees at Coyote Station, a 427 MW coal-fired electric generating station near Beulah, ND.

Successful applicant will learn the operating procedures and duties performed by the Operations Department, primarily to learn to safely operate the flue gas cleaning (FGC) scrubber and baghouse; learn the name, location, and function of plant equipment; learn all major and minor equipment systems in the plant. Provide general assistance in the power plant as needed. Shift work is required.

Qualifications

An associate degree in power plant or process technology or equivalent work experience is preferred. The applicant must be mechanically inclined, be able to wear a respirator, able to lift 40 – 50 pounds and must have a valid driver’s license. Applicant will be required to complete an aptitude inventory.

Manager, Transmission Design and Maintenance

Transmission Engineer

Land Rights Intern

Location

Responsibilities

Otter Tail Power Company has openings for temporary, full-time, summer intern positions for students pursuing GIS, land-related, or document management degree. Strong map reading skills and good understanding of property legal descriptions required to recognize, enter, and verify data in Sequel DB.  Work includes entering meta data for scanned property, permits, and other agreements documents, confirming correct OCR, and some document scanning.  Duties also include new data entry and verification for municipal developments and plats. Review of progress in GIS viewer to ensure meta data meets company’s goals. Internship is from May 2023 through August or September 2023.

 

Qualifications

The Land Rights and Survey Data Migration Summer Intern will assist with the migration of meta data currently stored in Otter Tail Power Company’s mainframe IDMS system to a SQL database that is our data repository for our GIS Land Rights map viewer. The Intern is accountable for scanning original-signature documents, confirming a match to migrated metadata and verifying the accuracy of that data, as well as inputting additional metadata to the database according to company guidelines.

Specifically, the Intern will:

  • Identify and enter meta data from scanned documents into Sequel DB.

  • Match existing meta data to previously scanned document and review for accuracy.

  • Import scanned documents into Documentum file management system according to company naming convention to create a link to the unique identifying field in the GIS database.

  • Utilize test criteria and methods to ensure the data appears as it should in our GIS system.

  • Verify established sort methods for use of metadata in Excel to enable users to:

    • Pull all land rights for a specific line.

    • Pull all permits for a specific line.

    • Create reports for other types of filters/sorts.

    • Document how this function can be used by OTP personnel.

  • Hold meetings with OTP personnel to ensure metadata meets company’s goals.

  • Provide weekly progress reports to Land Rights Supervisor.

Senior Electrical Engineer

Fergus Falls, Minnesota - Hybrid remote work opportunities available

Qualifications

This is an exciting technical position that includes both technical design and field implementation throughout Otter Tail’s service territory.  The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis in power, or comparable work experience in some aspect of substation electrical engineering.  Additional qualifications required for the senior level position include: (1) at least five years of specific design experience with substation equipment and P&C systems, (2) specific experience with design of SCADA systems, and (3) specific experience with substation construction and commissioning activities.  We are looking for a talented team contributor who has excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills, a demonstrated ability to be resilient by efficiently and timely managing multiple/simultaneous projects, and is detail-oriented.  Our ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude, be a self-starter with independent thinking and have strong problem-solving capabilities.

Applicants who do not possess the five years or related experience qualifications for the senior level position will be considered for an entry level position.
