Central Thermal-Storage Furnace
A central thermal-storage forced-air furnace is an economical, comfortable system that may be sized to fit your home or business. It uses specially designed ceramic bricks to store heat during off-peak hours when our electric rates are lowest. The stored heat then is released as needed throughout the day. Central thermal-storage furnaces offer clean, quiet, comfortable heating with low operating costs.
All-season comfort when combined with an air-source heat pump
When you combine a central thermal-storage forced-air furnace with an air source or cold-climate heat pump, you’ll benefit from summertime cooling as well as winter-season heating with a system that reaches an overall efficiency of 150% to 250%. When combined, a central thermal-storage furnace stores enough heat to provide comfort during energy control periods, while a heat pump efficiently moves free heat from outside air into your home.
Both systems can operate on a reduced off-peak rate, such as our Deferred Load Rate, which allows cycled control of the system during summer peak periods so spaces stay comfortable.
- Cleanliness. No combustion by-products.
- Effectiveness. Designed to heat an entire building and to work well with high-efficiency air source or cold-climate heat pumps—creating a system that provides all-season comfort.
- Efficiency. Combine the system's energy efficiency with our low off-peak rates for economical and efficient heating.
Rebates are available
Systems installed on our Fixed Time of Delivery, Residential Demand Control, or Deferred Load Rates may qualify for a rebate of $40-per-kilowatt (kW) for up to 500 kW of heating capacity installed. To qualify for a rebate, your system must have adequate storage capacity to heat the space during the maximum control period allowed by the rate on which it's served.
A system on our Dual Fuel Rate may qualify for a $500 rebate for a 9 kW to 25 kW unit, or a $20 per kW rebate for systems 26 kW or larger.
A minimum of 9 kW must be installed. Rebates totaling $10,000 or more require prior approval. Additional rebates are available for qualified air-source heat pump installations installed as part of a combined system.
