CFL Safety and Disposal

Compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs) and other fluorescent lamps contain a very small amount of mercury sealed within the glass tubing that is harmful to the environment. Rather than dispose of burned-out fluorescent lamps in your household trash, take them to a local recycling center for reuse. If a fluorescent bulb breaks, follow the EPA’s recommendations for clean-up and disposal. You can also call the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency at 800-657-3864 for proper disposal information.

To recycle CFLs take them to a Home Depot, WalMart, Menards, or one of the centers listed below. Recycling usually is free of charge.
