How it works
When you’re on our Deferred Load Rate, we use radio signals to control your service during peak and emergency conditions. This helps us manage the electrical system and keep energy prices as low as possible.
Our Deferred Load Rate is designed for thermal-storage technologies, including electric water heaters that charge during off-peak hours and continue to provide service even during peak periods when energy control is required. Air-source heat pumps and Level 2 electric vehicle chargers also may be added to this rate if they’re used with a storage system.
If you install your air-source heat pump on this rate, you may request that it be cycled 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off during occasional summer-season peak periods. This helps to keep spaces cool.
Rate details
This rider is for both residential and non-residential service to any approved permanently connected deferred loads. Such loads primarily are thermal storage, like underfloor heating or central-storage furnaces, and may include water heaters and heat pumps when heat storage is also in use. Loads may be controlled up to 14 hours a day, as measured from midnight to midnight. Optional rate 195 allows for qualified summer-season loads such as a heat pump to be cycled 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off during control periods.
During a rate review an interim rate adjustment may be applied to the charges below.
