Water Heating

Control your water heater and save

We offer two ways to save on your water heating costs—a $4 monthly water heating credit or our water heating controlled service rate. Both options let us control energy during peak periods while lowering your energy bill.

How it works

Water heating credit for standard general service

The water heating credit is a way to save money on your water heating costs without having to install a separate metering system.

You’ll need to have an electrician connect your electric water heater to your existing general service meter. Then, we’ll install a radio receiver on your meter at no additional cost.

During peak energy periods, we’ll signal your meter to control energy to your water heater. Once the peak period has passed, it returns to normal operation. For participating in energy control, you’ll receive a $4 credit on your monthly bill.

Water heating controlled service rate

You’ll need to have an electrician connect your electric water heater to an off-peak electrical service panel. Then, we’ll come to your home and install a radio receiver.

During periods of peak energy or emergencies, we’ll signal your meter to control energy to your water heater. Once the peak period has passed, normal service will be restored.

The water heating controlled service rate gives you greater cost savings on your water heating (you’ll save about 25% on your monthly bill, compared to our standard electric rates), while helping us reduce our energy load during peak periods.

For the greatest savings, you can also add an electric water heater to one of our other low off-peak rates, such as the Deferred Load, Dual Fuel, or Residential Demand Control rates.

If you don’t currently have an electric water heater and would like to install one, rebates are available.
