Upgrade your old thermostat to a smart thermostat and save! A smart thermostat can:
- Give you access and control from anywhere. Conveniently access and manage your smart thermostat to adjust your home’s comfort by using your smartphone, tablet, or computer.
- Reduce energy costs. Over time, a smart thermostat can learn your household’s schedule, habits, and preferences then make automatic adjustments—saving you energy and money.
- Provide comfort and ease of use. Advanced learning features like geofencing, coaching, HVAC diagnostics, and comparative information give you quick access to important information so you easily can make informed decisions and control the comfort of your home.
Savings will depend on how you program and manage your smart thermostat's settings, but for the average household almost half the annual energy bill goes toward heating and cooling. Being smart will help you save!
Rebate eligibility and details
Rebates are available to Minnesota and South Dakota residential customers for Tier II and Tier III smart thermostats.
- Customers with electricity as their home’s primary heating source may qualify for a rebate of $100 for a Tier II or $150 for a Tier III smart thermostat.
- Customers with electric cooling but without electric heating may qualify for a rebate of $35 for a Tier II or $50 for a Tier III smart thermostat.
How do I know if my smart thermostat is Tier II or Tier III?
Tier II: This communicating thermostat gives you access to set points and schedules from anywhere by using a smart device.
Tier III: This analytics capable thermostat offers all Tier II options as well as additional energy-saving features such as geofencing, coaching, HVAC diagnostics, and comparative information.
For rebate-approved smart thermostats, review the full model name located on your smart thermostat's box and look for key words that match it to a Tier level in the below tables.

Please note: We reserve the right to limit any rebate. Rebates cover only the cost of the smart thermostat purchased and cannot be applied to shipping and handling or installation costs. Only one rebate per household.
