Completes Energy-efficiency Upgrades

With the help of rebates from Otter Tail Power Company, Ulen-Hitterdal Public School recently completed several energy-efficient upgrades.

Improvements consisted of replacing approximately 650 interior and exterior lights with light-emitting diode (LED) technology and completing renovations to the school’s heating and cooling system, including adding new, high-efficiency cooling equipment and energy-efficient motors and variable speed drives.

Projected savings from the lighting upgrade alone are almost 250,000 kilowatt-hours annually—the same usage as approximately 30 residential homes. “Reinvesting in facilities to lower operating costs is a great way for school districts to lower energy use and reduce expenses,” said Otter Tail Power Company Energy Management Representative Roger Garton. “Between our company’s $39,700 rebate, the projected energy savings, and the reduced maintenance and repair costs, this project will pay for itself quickly.”

Otter Tail Power Company provides rebates, grants, education, special programs, and financing to encourage individuals and businesses to use electricity wisely. To learn more about LED lighting rebates, energy-efficient motors, or other energy-saving options, visit otpco.com.
