Electric boilers: What are they?

Efficient and safe heating for in-floor hydronics or radiators.

What is an electric boiler?

To create water or steam for an in-floor hydronic or radiator heating system, water must first be heated through a boiler.

An electric boiler is compact, so it can fit any size home or business, and is typically installed within:

  • Renovation or new construction projects
  • All types of in-floor hydronic heating systems
  • Hydronic baseboard heat and radiators

Benefits of electric boilers

Electric boilers provide 100% efficient electric heat — and, they’re may be sized to fit in nearly any type of building. They tend to have reduced maintenance costs as compared to similar gas models, all in a more sustainable package.

Additionally, depending on the system, electric boilers may qualify for rebates and special rates. For example, electric boilers can be combined with an existing system to quality for duel-fuel rates. (This may require additional wiring, a meter socket, and a service panel.)

How do they work?

For electric boilers to work, piping or tubing lines must be installed to circulate output. The boiler itself heats water as it passes across an element, transferring heat throughout the system.
