Lead Lineman

Responsibilities

We have an immediate opening for a Lead Lineman in Harvey, ND.

Successful applicant will supervise, direct and work with the crew to erect and install, maintain or repair overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems and substations; where necessary, frame and erect poles and attach necessary fixtures and equipment; string, sag and splice conductors (wires) and connect transformer and other equipment; trim trees, replace such equipment as broken insulators, split crossarms, cutouts, ties, faulty clamps or braces; and perform similar replacement or repair work as necessary on routine patrol or to clear up storm damage. Use electrical instruments, operate hydraulic equipment, and work out of an aerial basket.

Qualifications

We have an immediate opening for a Lead Lineman in Harvey, ND.

Must be a Journeyman Lineman with a diploma from an accredited line worker program or have equivalent experience. Must have an unrestricted interstate commercial driver’s license; positive leadership qualities and show an ability to plan, supervise and work with people and tools; an interest in teaching people working on the crew the lineman trade; thorough knowledge of electric line and underground construction, maintenance and repair; be able to work outdoors in any weather, able to climb, understand the mechanical equipment used in the trade, and have the ability to get along well with others. Successful applicant will be expected to reside within 17 miles from permanent headquarters in Harvey, ND.

Business Information Systems Specialist

  • Be a problem-solver by running diagnostics, troubleshooting, and resolving performance and reporting issues for the company’s financial reporting system and other software and applications owned by the Accounting Department.
  • Schedule the software operands and sequencing to integrate subsystems with General Ledger and support closing process of the company’s financial systems each month.
  • Participate in planning and coordinating quarterly upgrades and other duties associated with administration of the company’s financial reporting system.
  • Collaborate with a team of subsystem administrators to ensure accuracy, control effectiveness, and efficiency of Otter Tail Power Company’s financial reporting system.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, an associate degree in business, accounting, or IT related field or equivalent experience is required. Two years’ experience with business systems is required with experience in general accounting and reporting preferred.  We are seeking candidates who are motivated and have an eye for detail.  The successful candidate will have excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Load Researcher

Responsibilities

Description:

At Otter Tail Power (OTP), our employees help us to serve the communities we support by producing reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible electricity. In this role, the Load Researcher will develop and analyze load research data and sample designs to help our company assign costs and develop rates for our customers.

Some examples of those activities will include:

  • Collaborate with determining appropriate sample selection procedures for classes of customers to be sampled. This will include emerging electro technologies, such as, electric vehicle charging and battery storage.
  • Develop and determine a statistically optimum load survey design for each class of customer to be sampled.
  • Analyze hourly load research data – developing load data necessary for rate design calculations, inputs to cost of service studies and relationships between demographic data, electrical demands and energy used.
  • Update the Customer Information System database extracts and perform analysis on this data for multiple areas of the company.
  • Monitor all Load Research data to insure sample validity in relation to OTP’s customers.
  • Perform other miscellaneous analysis using statistical software and other mathematical modeling tools.
  • Ensure internal control of important load research data.
  • Develop customer end use hourly load data to support various departments within the company.
  • Exposure to how customers utilize renewable energy sources in conjunction with power delivered by OTP.

Project Engineer

The Project Engineer provides operation, maintenance, and engineering support for all generator assets. Other duties include, research, and analyze emerging technologies in the generation field to support Resource Planning. Review, evaluate, report, and ensure compliance with new and existing regulatory requirements for generator assets. Find technical solutions for issues and concerns and justify, execute, and complete in a cost-effective manner. Manage engineering, equipment supply, and construction contracts. Interact with vendors and consultants related to equipment and systems. Evaluate and justify maintenance and performance projects.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering with knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and civil/structural systems associated with electrical generation is required. Must have the ability to learn environmental and safety regulations and policies; and accounting and purchasing practices. Requires thorough knowledge of good engineering practice and fundamentals. Must have excellent time management, interpersonal and communication skills. Selected candidates will be required to complete a pre-interview assessment.

Requires the following physical abilities: Able to lift 50 pounds; able to climb stairs; able to work in hot, cold, dark, dusty, chemical vapors, noisy and confined environments; possess and maintain a valid driver’s license; able to sit or stand for long periods of time; and perform tasks that require manual dexterity.

Construction Site Supervisor

The Construction Site Supervisor will manage OTP’s large transmission line construction sites in order to ensure OTP meets its mission of providing reliable, low-cost and environmentally responsible power to its customers.

To achieve that, the Construction Site Supervisor will:

  • Directly manage consultants and contractors on OTP transmission projects.
  • Develop programs and procedures including but not limited to access requirements for contractors, contractor access schedules, matting purchase plans, laydown yard plans, plans for road and off-road maintenance.
  • Create and ensure strong safety culture of all those present at construction sites.
  • Coordinate with tribes and local governments regarding cultural resources and permitting.
  • Serve as liaison between landowners and construction contractors, striving to limit the project’s impact on landowners as is reasonable.
  • Manage and mitigate risks to safe site accessibility.
