Plenum heating

A low cost, 100% efficient ducted heating system that can take advantage of our low dual fuel rate.

What is an electric plenum heater?

Diagram of a plenum heater. All central heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems have a plenum—the point at which your ducting and furnace join together. A plenum heater is installed within your plenum to provide electric heating. As air flows across electric elements within your heater, it's distributed through existing ductwork.

Plenum heater benefits

A plenum heater can turn any existing fossil-fuel furnace into a dual-fuel system, extending the life of the system and allowing you to take advantage of off-peak rates, rebate programs, and 100% efficient electric heating.

Plenum heaters can be installed while remodeling or during new construction. Please consult a heating contractor if you have low ceilings to confirm adequate space.

Additionally, a plenum heater:

  • Provides a combined efficiency of 130%-150% when installed with a heat pump.
  • Can meet your home’s total heating needs.
  • May qualify for rebates when installed on an eligible rate.

Rebates are available

Install an electric plenum heater on our Dual Fuel or RDC Rates and qualify for a rebate. See details on our electric heating rebate page.
