Advanced Load Management

Load Control Device upgrades

Starting this June we’ll begin upgrading Load Control Devices across our service area as part of routine system maintenance.

Upgrades will take place between June 2026 and December 2027. This standard equipment update helps keep load management programs running reliably now and into the future.

What to expect

  • Your current electric service, rate, and program participation won’t change.
  • An Otter Tail Power Company employee or an authorized contractor with photo identification will perform the work.
  • The upgrade takes about 30 minutes and may require a brief, safe pause in your electric service.

Help us prepare for the upgrade

  • Please make sure the Load Control Device is easy to access.
  • If the device is outdoors, a technician will complete the work independently.
  • If the device is indoors, an adult (18 or older) must be present.

If we’re unable to access the device, we’ll contact you to schedule an appointment.

What Residential Demand Control (RDC) customers should know

  • During the upgrade, there will be a short period of load control lasting up to 30 minutes.
  • Although we normally register demand during control events, we won’t register a penalty demand during the upgrade.
  • The device may make noise during this time.

Visit RDC for more information about our RDC rate.
