Drive electric with an EV

Find efficiency no matter where you’re driving with an electric vehicle.

Charging locations

The bulk of electric vehicle charging—estimated at 80%-90%—occurs at home, since daily commutes are typically shorter than the average battery range. Charging at home also typically offers the most cost-effective rates.

For longer trips you can find public charging options along your route using the following options:

  • PlugShare: Find public charging options in your area.
  • A Better Routeplanner: Customize your route to match your current charge, vehicle model, and stops along your drive.

Choose your electric vehicle

Electric vehicles (EV) use electricity as their primary source of fuel. But not all electric vehicles are the same.

  • Battery electric vehicle (BEV): Uses electricity as its only power source and has a typical range of 80-420 miles per charge.
  • Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV): Uses both conventional fuel and electricity and has a typical battery range of 40 miles per charge, with gasoline taking over until the battery is recharged.

Charging options for your home or business

All electric vehicles require charging, but what does that look like? While you should consult with a dealer for specific details, the following options are most common:

  • Level 1: Level 1 charging requires plugging a 120V cord set directly into any standard outlet. With this method you'll get roughly 2-5 miles of range per hour of charge (24-60 miles in 12 hours).
  • Level 2: Level 2 charging requires a dedicated 240V circuit and Level 2 charging equipment. With this method you'll get roughly 15-45 miles of range per hour of charge.
  • Level 3: Level 3 charging is commonly used when traveling long distances and offered by third parties. Also known as a direct current fast charger, with this method you can charge about 9 miles per minute (depending on charger size, current output, and vehicle capabilities).

Supporting electric vehicle adoption

We continue expanding partnerships to create more efficient spaces with new electric technologies and options.

Potential electric vehicle (EV) owners often cite range anxiety as a barrier to purchase. Range anxiety is the fear of depleting an EV’s battery and not having an accessible place to recharge. We’re working to ease this anxiety and remove obstacles to EV adoption by making more charging stations accessible throughout our service area.

How to charge

  • Download the Chargelab app or simply scan the QR code located at each station to begin.
  • After scanning, you’ll be prompted to log in or sign up to create an account and set up your payment method.
  • Once logged in, select the port you’re using and tap “Start Session.” Then, plug in your vehicle to begin charging.
  • If you run into issues, tap “Need help starting a charging session?” for troubleshooting. For further assistance, visit the “Help Center” or "Call Support" icons on the screens display or call the sites support line at 800-636-0986.
