Responsibilities

We have an opening for a Customer Service Representative at our Customer Service Center in Bemidji, MN. As a company, we continue to be innovative as we modernize our energy grid, enhance customers’ experiences, and work toward a cleaner energy future.

This position requires good organizational, excellent written and verbal communication, and customer service skills. Should be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and related computer programs. Project Engineer

Location

Responsibilities

Our employees’ impact can take many forms. In this role, the Project Engineer will lead all technical and engineering aspects of the projects required to help OTP meet our mission.

Some of the details of the day-to-day include:

  • Maximize project efficiency while balancing operational, maintenance and engineering requirements including collaboration with vendors and consultants.

  • Maintain a continuous improvement and long-term planning mindset to ensure projects utilize emerging and innovative technologies.

  • Ensure compliance with new and existing regulatory requirements for generator assets.

  • Manage engineering, equipment supply, and construction contracts.

  • Strategize and recommend necessary maintenance and performance projects.

Qualifications

  • A successful candidate will be able to manage the small details of a project including deadlines, while keeping the bigger picture value and vision front and center throughout the project development and implementation.

  • This role requires excellent collaboration so communication and interpersonal skills are a must.

  • Safety and community are key values at OTP and the Project Manager will lead on safety and environmental best practices and regulations.

  • In learning the position, the Project Engineer will need to be able to learn accounting and purchasing practices to meet timeline and budgetary requirements.

  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering with knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and civil/structural systems associated with electrical generation is required.

  • Physical requirements of the role include:

    • Able to lift 50 pounds, climb stairs, work in hot, cold, dark, dusty, chemical vapors, noisy and confined environments, possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, sit or stand for long periods of time, and perform tasks that require manual dexterity.

Operations Supervisor

Big Stone Plant, Big Stone City, SD

Responsibilities

In this role, the Operations Supervisor leads a critical team that ensures the plant is available to produce the electricity required by both OTP’s customer base and the overall grid.   • Manage a team of Plant Operators to ensure 24/7/365 efficient and reliable operations.

  • Collaborates with Plant Engineers to solve problems and enhance the plant’s productive output.

Combustion Turbine Technician

Location

Astoria Station, South Dakota

Responsibilities

We have an immediate opening for a Combustion Turbine Technician at Astoria Station, South Dakota.

Must have a thorough understanding of electronics, PLC's, instrumentation and electricity; knowledge of combustion turbines and hydro operations; understand basic theories involved in the operation of a combustion turbine and understand mechanical equipment of a plant; be fluent in the use of computers; startup and shutdown a combustion turbine, hydro turbine and its associated equipment; act promptly without supervision in case of emergencies; perform all required maintenance duties and be able to work in temperature conditions above 100 degrees and below 0 degrees. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

An associate’s degree in electrical or electronics technology, or combustion turbine technology, or equivalent experience is required. Must be able to troubleshoot, read prints, and know how to use electronic and electrical test equipment.

Energy Recovery Analyst

Responsibilities

In this role, the Energy Recovery Analyst will develop rates to recover all fuel and purchased energy costs needed to serve our customers.

  • Develop and administer reporting and tracking system for fuel and purchased energy costs.

  • Coordinate, prepare, and file monthly and annual state filings.

  • Own and maintain accounting, invoicing, and recordkeeping of energy related purchases and sales.

  • Prepare budget information supporting fuel forecast budgeting.

Journeyman Lineman/Service Representative

Location

Garrison, ND

Responsibilities

We have an opening for a Journeyman Lineman/Service Representative in Garrison, ND.

Operates the electrical distribution system and serves as the Company representative in the designated group of towns. Installs, removes or replaces meters in customer establishments. Installs and maintains service lines, receiving customer complaints and performing necessary repair work to overhead distribution or service facilities. Works with and cooperates with Line and Service, Division Crews, or other line crews in building and repairing distribution and transmission lines and facilities.

Qualifications

Applicants must be sufficiently qualified as a Journeyman Lineman with a minimum of four years of experience and be able to do necessary emergency repair work. Must have knowledge of electric line construction, maintenance, and repair. Must be able to assume responsibilities for area operations, maintain favorable public relations, and supervise and instruct assistants as necessary. Must have a valid unrestricted interstate commercial driver’s license. Successful applicant will be expected to reside within 17 miles of permanent headquarters in Garrison, ND.

Transmission Engineer

In this role, the Transmission Engineer will improve the reliability of our energy structure by designing transmission projects.   • Design and achieve transmission projects including structural details of the materials and project details such as proper construction documentation.

  • Manage budgetary aspects of project design including cost estimates and design quantities for bidding purposes.

  • Collaborate with internal and external engineers to ensure construction meets OTP’s standards.

Senior Electrical Engineer

Location

Fergus Falls, Minnesota - Hybrid remote work opportunities available

Qualifications

This is an exciting technical position that includes both technical design and field implementation throughout Otter Tail’s service territory.  The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis in power, or comparable work experience in some aspect of substation electrical engineering.  Additional qualifications required for the senior level position include: (1) at least five years of specific design experience with substation equipment and P&C systems, (2) specific experience with design of SCADA systems, and (3) specific experience with substation construction and commissioning activities.  We are looking for a talented team contributor who has excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills, a demonstrated ability to be resilient by efficiently and timely managing multiple/simultaneous projects, and is detail-oriented.  Our ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude, be a self-starter with independent thinking and have strong problem-solving capabilities.

Applicants who do not possess the five years or related experience qualifications for the senior level position will be considered for an entry level position.
