Electrical Engineer

Location

Fergus Fall, Minnesota - Hybrid remote work opportunities available

Responsibilities

Successful applicant will perform short circuit and arc-flash studies, develop protective device settings, develop relay/control schematics for equipment, prepare/review electric system equipment specifications and provide technical supervision and leadership to electricians and technicians during construction of major substations. Overnight travel to all parts of the Otter Tail Power system is often necessary.   

Qualifications

For this position we require bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, with an emphasis in power or comparable work experience in some aspect of substation electrical engineering. We are looking for a talented team contributor that has excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills, self-directed time management skills, and working knowledge of the general operation of the electric transmission and distribution systems. Ideal candidate must be able to maintain a positive attitude, handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, be able to think independently, have strong problem-solving capabilities, and be stress tolerant.

Electrical Engineer

  • Familiarity with software programs that simulate system performance and/or energy market characteristics is required to hit the ground running.

  • Knowledge of regional tariffs, business practice manuals and study procedures are also required.

Senior Electrical Engineer

Location

Fergus Falls, Minnesota - Hybrid remote work opportunities available

Qualifications

This is an exciting technical position that includes both technical design and field implementation throughout Otter Tail’s service territory.  The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis in power, or comparable work experience in some aspect of substation electrical engineering.  Additional qualifications required for the senior level position include: (1) at least five years of specific design experience with substation equipment and P&C systems, (2) specific experience with design of SCADA systems, and (3) specific experience with substation construction and commissioning activities.  We are looking for a talented team contributor who has excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills, a demonstrated ability to be resilient by efficiently and timely managing multiple/simultaneous projects, and is detail-oriented.  Our ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude, be a self-starter with independent thinking and have strong problem-solving capabilities.

Applicants who do not possess the five years or related experience qualifications for the senior level position will be considered for an entry level position.

Environmental Specialist

Location

Fergus Falls, Minnesota

Responsibilities

Successful applicant will assist with environmental responsibilities through providing accurate and timely reports, records, and documentation. Ensure compliance with permit requirements and regulations. Collaborate, provide guidance, and develop training for Company personnel as necessary. Develop documents and applications to obtain the necessary permits and approvals from regulatory agencies. Process and interpret data, including the ability to evaluate, analyze, and summarize the impact of environmental regulations. Communicate and maintain a strong rapport with company personnel, environmental consultants, and regulatory agency staff. Conduct environmental inspections and investigate environmental incidents. Provide overall assistance with Otter Tail Power Company’s environmental sustainability responsibilities.

Qualifications

For this role we require a bachelor’s degree in engineering or natural sciences, with a strong background in sciences such as biology and chemistry. Equivalent job-related experience will be considered.  Experience in state and federal environmental regulations, environmental analysis and permitting, and a basic knowledge of the regulatory and legislative system is preferred. The qualified applicant requires a general understanding of, or the aptitude to learn company operations, including steam plant, combustion turbine, and renewables, as well as certain features of power distribution and waste disposal practices. Applicant must have superior organizational skills, the ability to process and interpret data, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a professional demeanor when dealing with controversial issues.

Lead Customer Service Representative

Location

Bemidji, Minnesota

Responsibilities

Successful applicant will provide support for the Operations Manager and Customer Service Manager. Provide support with the monthly and annual O&M budgeting and variance reporting process. Coordinate and oversee payroll and credit card entry. Assist with supervising staff and scheduling work in the absence of the Customer Service Manager. Participate in the rotation of afterhours coverage and coordinate resources for outage restoration.

Qualifications

Must have an associate degree or equivalent work experience in electric utility operations with previous experience in the following preferred: budgeting, work order paperwork completion, and payroll. Must have good communication, organizational and customer service skills. Should be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and related computer programs. Experience in customer service, accounting, and marketing would be beneficial.

Department Assistant

Location

Fergus Falls, Minnesota - Hybrid remote work opportunities available

Responsibilities

Provide complete, accurate and timely service for Renewable Energy. Track, verify and submit invoices to the appropriate areas for approval. Coordinate meetings, schedules, calls, and communication. Prepare and distribute various daily, weekly, and monthly reports. Maintain blanket agreements. Input and maintain the record keeping system. Prepare and mail Annual Wind Turbine Easement payments. Perform internal control related responsibilities. Maintain databases and schedules. Participate in activities of current and future projects within Renewable Energy. 

Qualifications

An associate degree in Administrative Assistant coursework or equivalent experience is preferred. Must have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal relationship skills. Requires experience in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Oracle software. Must be able to adapt to managing multiple projects, multi-task and meet deadlines.

Service Representative/Lineman

Location

Carrington, North Dakota

Responsibilities

Operates the electrical distribution system and serves as the Company representative in the designated group of towns. Installs, removes or replaces meters in customer establishments. Installs and maintains service lines, receiving customer complaints and performing necessary repair work to overhead distribution or service facilities. Works with and cooperates with Line and Service, Division Crews, or other line crews in building and repairing distribution and transmission lines and facilities.

Qualifications

Applicants must be sufficiently qualified as a Journeyman Lineman with a minimum of four years of experience and be able to do necessary emergency repair work. Must have knowledge of electric line construction, maintenance, and repair. Must be able to assume responsibilities for area operations, maintain favorable public relations, and supervise and instruct assistants as necessary. Must have a valid unrestricted interstate commercial driver’s license. Successful applicant will be expected to reside within 17 miles of permanent headquarters in Carrington, ND.
