Manager, Land Rights and Permitting

Location

Fergus Falls, MN

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for leading the Land Rights and Permitting team to secure and maintain the Company’s complex land and permitting activities. These activities range from routine transmission and distribution projects to supporting resource siting additions and/or large multi-state transmission projects.  We are looking for a talented Manger with experience in successfully inspiring and leading a team with competing priorities while having demonstrated experience and knowledge to actively engage and direct all land and related permitting activities and challenges. 

Qualifications

We are looking for a minimum of 5 years’ experience with land and right-of-way acquisition, real estate, title research, utility coordination, relocation, and property management. A professional degree is preferred, with consideration given to a combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business, real estate, or a related field or area of expertise.  Applicant must have demonstrated experience with federal, state and local agencies, private industry and landowners to facilitate the acquisition of necessary right of way and a proven ability to deal effectively and efficiently with property owners or agencies and protect confidentiality. Applicant should have effective organizational and management experience successfully leading teams.  Possess knowledge and experience in title research including the ability to read, review and understand right of way plans and legal descriptions.

Manager Customer Service

Location

Fergus Falls, Minnesota

Responsibilities

Successful applicant will manage and operate the area Customer Service Center. Supervise office staff to provide optimum customer service, accurate, timely billing of electric service, and lead and develop customer service personnel. Implement strategies and initiatives as outlined in the yearly customer service strategic plan. Promote and sell electric heating and cooling technologies. Enhance community relationships and work with local governments on obtaining franchise agreements. Will provide support to field personnel in the absence of the Operation Manager and resources for administrative support to other areas of Customer Service. Provide after-hours management on call.

Qualifications

For this role, we require an associate degree in business, and a minimum of five years of customer service and electric utility operations experience. Qualified applicant should have experience in budgeting, cost control, planning, and supervision. Knowledge of Public Utilities Commission and Public Service Commission regulations is required. Strong communication skills and leadership capabilities are beneficial.

Programmer/Analyst

Location

Responsibilities

Work with department personnel to analyze and define process and software requirements to meet the business needs of the company. Develop, implement and maintain application software. Design and build software interfaces. Assist in the evaluation and selection of software products. Implement, customize and maintain software products to meet company requirements. Support critical applications during non-core hours.

Qualifications

For this role, we require a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with data query and manipulation tools is required.

Qualified applicant should have knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Visual Studio Development Environment, scripting languages, web tools and client/server applications. Application development experience utilizing a relational database environment is required with preference to Microsoft SQL Server. Knowledge of power system, transmission and energy market concepts is beneficial. Individual must have exceptional problem-solving skills, strong work ethic and potential supervisory qualifications. Excellent documentation, communication and interpersonal skills are required to work effectively with management, co-workers and client personnel in a team-based setting.

Network Engineer

Location

This position to report to a reasonable location within our service territory and may include hybrid remote workplace options.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll provide support on system design, implementation, maintenance, security, and overall optimization of our networking infrastructure.

Qualifications

We’re looking for an associate’s degree or higher in telecommunications engineering, network engineering, computer science or an equivalent field, as well as five years of experience in network engineering.

Mechanical Engineer Intern

Location

Big Stone Plant near Milbank, South Dakota

Responsibilities

Otter Tail Power Company is currently seeking qualified student applicants to fill one position for Mechanical Engineer Intern at Big Stone Plant from May through August 2022. 

The Mechanical Engineer Intern will provide assistance to Plant Engineering in the following areas:

  •  Plant systems performance analysis

  • Plant systems modification cost/benefit analysis

  • Sub system Mechanical/Civil design

  • Electronic print updates

The position requires excellent written communication skills and attention to detail in order to publish accurate study reports and provide accurate drawing updates. Furthermore, the role also requires strong oral communication skills used in working with plant staff and outside contractors and equipment vendors.

Qualifications

Looking for students in the mechanical engineering program with an emphasis in Power Plant engineering. The applicant must have proficient computer skills with various software applications in Microsoft such as Word, Excel, and Access. In addition, the applicant must be proficient in the use of Autodesk AutoCad software.

Qualifications

Otter Tail Power Company is pleased to offer paid craft internship opportunities at the Big Stone Power Plant, located near Big Stone City, South Dakota. These full-time internships are for 12 to 16 weeks during the summer of 2022. 

Big Stone Plant is offering internships in each of the following Power Plant departments:

Mechanical Maintenance Department (Energy Technology

Power Plant Operators (2 positions) (Energy Operations)

Yard Operator (Heavy Equipment Operator)

Instrumentation & Controls Technician (Robotics)

To be eligible you must be a full-time student in a technical college program offering training in this craft discipline. Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment aptitude test, a physical examination, and background check.
