Plant Engineer

Location

Big Stone Plant, near Milbank, South Dakota

Responsibilities

Manage a wide variety of plant improvement projects, perform plant thermal performance engineering, and provide technical assistance to other departments consistent with reducing operating costs and increasing plant availability. 

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required. Prior coal-fired power plant experience preferred. Applicants must have good interpersonal, communication, computer, and project management skills. Knowledge of digital control systems and computer network experience is a plus.

Operator Trainee

Location

Coyote Station, Beulah, North Dakota

Responsibilities

Learn the operating procedures and duties performed by the Fifth Operator, primarily to safely operate the flue gas cleaning (FGC) scrubber and baghouse; learn the names, locations, and functions of all major and minor equipment systems in the plant; provide general assistance in the power plant as needed; and perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

An associate’s degree in power plant or process technology or equivalent work experience is preferred but not required. Applicant must be mechanically inclined, able to wear a respirator, and able to lift 40 to 50 pounds. Applicant will be required to complete an aptitude inventory.

Successful applicant will be required to reside within 20 miles of Coyote Station.

Power Plant Operator

Location

Big Stone Plant near Milbank, South Dakota

Responsibilities

Assist dayshift Fourth Operator with Air Quality Control System (AQCS) equipment monitoring, operating and servicing.  When not conducting these jobs, the Fifth Operator will train for Fourth Operator duties.  Operate, monitor and service plant auxiliary equipment, including scrubber ash and lime handling, and reclaim, ammonia, activated carbon and other auxiliary systems related to AQCS. Assist in other areas as directed by the Chief Operator.

Qualifications

Specialized education and training, or documented experience in the operation and maintenance of high pressure steam boilers and power processes is required. Applicants must have a strong mechanical aptitude, thorough understanding of power generation and steam plant operations. 

Must be able to work in all weather, confined spaces and at height; be able to lift 50 pounds and wear a respirator; and hold a valid driver’s license. Preference will be given to applicants with an associate’s degree in power plant or process technology. 

Applicants will be required to complete an aptitude inventory.

Lead Lineman

Location

Crookston, Minnesota

Responsibilities

Supervise, direct and work with the crew to erect and install, maintain or repair overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems and substations.

Qualifications

Must be a Journeyman Lineman with a diploma from an accredited line worker program or have equivalent experience. Must have an unrestricted interstate commercial driver’s license; positive leadership qualities and show an ability to plan, supervise and work with people and tools; an interest in teaching people working on the crew the lineman trade; thorough knowledge of electric line and underground construction, maintenance and repair; be able to work outdoors in any weather, able to climb, understand the mechanical equipment used in the trade, and have the ability to get along well with others. Successful applicant will be expected to reside within 17 miles from permanent headquarters in Crookston, Minnesota.
