Responsibilities

Successful applicant will supervise, direct and work with the crew to erect and install, maintain or repair overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems and substations; where necessary, frame and erect poles and attach necessary fixtures and equipment; string, sag and splice conductors (wires) and connect transformer and other equipment; trim trees, replace such equipment as broken insulators, split crossarms, cutouts, ties, faulty clamps or braces; and perform similar replacement or repair work as necessary on routine patrol or to clear up storm damage. Use electrical instruments, operate hydraulic equipment, and work out of an aerial basket.

Qualifications

Must be a Journeyman Lineman with a diploma from an accredited line worker program or have equivalent experience. Operations Manager

Responsibilities

Our Customer Service Operations team builds and maintains the infrastructure of our company and by leading our Line Workers well, the Operations Manager will not only help to develop their careers but will also ensure an excellent customer service experience.

  • Complete projects that enhance, improve, and maintain our infrastructure by managing Line Workers.

  • This position is people-centric so excellent communication and leadership skills are incredibly valued and preferred as we seek the next Operations Manager. This includes public speaking skills and adapting communications style to various groups including employees, customers, and city/state/county leaders.
  • To be successful in this position, a four-year degree in Business or Engineering or five-seven years of experience in field customer service operations is required.
  • The Operations Manager wears many hats, so proven success in managing multiple complex projects is a must.
  • Familiarity with the Collective Bargaining Agreement with which we work will enable a candidate to work with employees effectively.
  • The electric utility industry can be unique in some ways and to navigate the intricacies of the industry we prefer, but don’t require, a candidate with utility experience.

Journeyman or Apprentice Service Representative/Lineman

Responsibilities

We have an opening for a Well-Qualified Journeyman or Apprentice Service Representative located in Jamestown, ND.

Serves as the Company representative in the designated group of towns. Installs, removes, or replaces meters in customer establishments. Installs and maintains service lines, receiving customer complaints and performing necessary repair work to overhead distribution or service facilities.

Electrician

Location

Coyote Station, Beulah, ND

Responsibilities

Otter Tail Power Company has an opening for a journeyman or well-qualified apprentice maintenance electrician at its Coyote Station, a 420 MW coal-fired electric generating station near Beulah, ND.

Job duties include installing, testing, troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing power plant electrical equipment. Plant electrical equipment includes motor controls, motors, generators, breakers, protective relays, voltage regulators, programmable controllers, UPS systems, DC distribution systems, portable and stationary tools and equipment, and AC electrical distribution systems to include switchgear, cabling, transformers, distribution panels, and utilization equipment. Must perform assignments safely, using good judgment, with a sense of responsibility and have the ability to work well with others.

Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of two years technical school, with a working knowledge of electrical apparatus and schematics. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be physically fit, mentally alert and possess good communication skills. Must be physically able to perform all maintenance duties requiring standing, sitting, crawling, climbing, lifting and work in temperature extremes from below zero to above 100 degrees. Applicant will be required to complete an aptitude inventory.

Journeyman or Well-Qualified Apprentice Electrician

Fergus Falls, MN

Responsibilities

Otter Tail Power Company has an opening for a Journeyman or Well-Qualified Apprentice Electrician located in Fergus Falls, MN.

You’ll assemble and erect high voltage steel substations and all associated electrical equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, motor mechanisms, instrument transformers, switches, and capacitors and perform other tasks as assigned. Must be able to understand wiring schematics and other prints used during fabrication and wiring of relay panels and other electrical apparatus. You’ll be required to work from ladders and hydraulic basket trucks at various heights. Work may be indoors or outdoors, winter and summer, and will require travel to all parts of the Otter Tail Power Company system.

This position will be under the direct supervision of the Electrical Crew Foreman or receive only periodic supervision while the Foreman is on another job assignment. Consideration for safety is foremost. It is required the person in this position perform all duties in accordance with Company safety rules regarding equipment and personal protection.

For this position, we require a minimum of two years technical school, with a working knowledge of schematics and function of electrical apparatus. Must perform assignments safely, using good judgment, with a sense of responsibility and the ability to work well with others. The selected candidates will be expected to learn to use electrical instruments, to operate hydraulic equipment and to work out of an aerial basket.
