Minnesota Rates and Pricing

Most days, electricity just works. Behind the scenes, we generate electricity, move it across the grid, maintain the system, and prepare for future energy needs.

Your electric bill supports the work required to make that possible. It helps cover the cost of producing and delivering electricity, maintaining infrastructure, and investing in the system that serves homes, businesses, and communities across our Minnesota service area.

Affordability remains an important part of those decisions. We carefully evaluate investments, manage costs responsibly, and look for ways to deliver service while keeping bills as steady and predictable as possible.

Generation projects help to ensure we can continue providing you with reliable and affordable energy. Transmission projects support growing electrical needs, deliver renewable energy, and improve system reliability. Our programs provide you with rebates, grants, education, and more for using energy wisely.
We recover these costs through the Renewable Resource Adjustment Rider. We recover these costs through the Transmission Cost Recovery Rider. We recover these costs through the Conservation Improvement Program surcharge.

Minnesota customers also pay an Energy Adjustment and Resource Adjustment, which includes the Energy-Intensive, Trade-Exposed (EITE) Rider and Revenue Decoupling Mechanism (RDM) Rider.

Many people don’t know a lot about electricity, even though it’s an essential part of everyday life. The Your electricity brochure offers useful information about where electricity comes from, how we calculate rates, and ways to reduce your electricity use.
